Play to make confinement easier

We are usually familiar with the virtues of play on learning skills for all children diverse needs, but play also proved its therapeutic virtues.
Many children psychologists and psychiatrists use toys and games as means of verbalisation of emotions and feelings.  During this time of concern within families, toys are an essential reassurance tool that will you better understand what your children might feel and help them free their anxiety.

How to pick and use toys to help children go through this unprecedented time?

How can play help us preserve our children carelessness?

Imitate to express

Imitation games have major psychological and cognitive virtues.
Imitating parents, super heroes and jobs around them, children try to master the complex world we live in, and express their fears more easily.
Doctor’s case, or nurses/doctors figurines can be a good way to talk about diseases, the fear of the virus and hospital. Those intermediary characters help children feel their real feelings are “protected” and prevent them from feeling judged.
Small theater play or role playing are also excellent activities.
Switching roles within the family or playing the role of someone whose job is connected to the pandemic, can help children express how they feel about confinement and what disturb them. Take those opportunity to just listen to your children. Avoid any interference and try to memorize the words and expressions they use, since they strongly reveal your children unique way of thinking and feeling. Then take time for dialogue once the play is finished. Non-violent communication and active and empathic listening will help you reword your children emotions with no judgment.. Solutions will come naturally in the conversation.

Play to downplay

Imagiantion games such as construction games, sceneries, figurines or puppets can be great tools to help children invent liberating stories.

Staging their daily life helps children express while getting a feeling of control through imagination and absurdity.
Sceneries of our Fabulabox toys represent daily markers of children through themes such as school, fears, travel… The graphic design increase their focus and the funny details free their imagination. Psychologists as well as parents can use those to help children express how their life has changed, what they miss, and invent the story of each character./div>

Beyond verbalisation, imagination games allow children free their anxiety by creating a protective imaginary world, through a stable environment or a funny and absurd world that helps forgetting what is really bothering them.. Children unicity will reveal in this play, as long as we let them free to talk about the confinement or choose to forget it.

You are Fabulous

You can use your children favorite universe to let them explore this theme freely. Absurdity is liberating: it makes daily issues less harsh since they are not governed by logic anymore. Let fairies fight against dinosaurs from the future: if they find a cure against an evil disease, you won!
